The lens is what makes the camera, that’s it, in not so many words. Sure the camera needs to have a good megapixel, speed, easy to use menu system, well thought out dials to operate the camera, but what really makes the difference in a good digital SLR, is the lenses. The lens is what brings in the light or obstructs it. The sharpness, crisp colors, and beautiful detail is captured through the lens to the image sensor.
A good lens doesn’t always have to be expensive, but most of the time the more money you spend on a lens the better quality photos you can capture. One good example of a great lens at a great price is the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1.8D Lens. With a retail price of around $125.00 (I’ve seen it as low as a hundred at some stores) this lens is sharp, fast, and captures excellent photographs.
Most High quality sharp lenses you can expect to pay more for, but they are worth it. Being that SLR lenses are interchangeable, a lens is the greatest investment you can make in your digital camera purchase. You can go through a few DLSR bodies and keep the same lenses through all of them. An occasional lens calibration will do you good, but lenses are what will please you the most in your photography, well at least in capturing that great photograph.
We are putting together a lens guide and review section of Nikon Nikkor Lenses. Reviews will be added regularly.

And as always, we love to hear your comments and thoughts. What do you think? How much Difference does the Lense make in taking good photographs? (of course a good photograph is also dependent on the person taking the photograph and all that, I am speaking technically a good sharp, clean, crisp photograph)
