Nikon Announced the Nikon D40 Digital SLR Camera and will have the camera available for sale December 2006 just in time for the holiday blitz. It looks like the perfect camera for the consumer or photographer looking for something more out of their regular point-and-shoot camera. Don’t expect a lot of pro dials and widgets on this camera, they are going for simplicity. It has a very simple shooting mode and nearly naked back on the camera, in comparison to the D50, D80 and D200. They’ve made the D40 smaller, by eliminating the top LCD monitor, see image comparison below. It’s also very light, just over 16 ounces in weight.
